X pipe is definitely the way to go.

Ditto...the x-pipe is more efficient.

X Pipe's traditionally add more HP and more TQ across most of the powerband (especially down low). The sound of an H-Pipe is usually more 'old school' big block, while the X is more of a burble. Granted, my statement is about as "general" as you can get, but may give you more insight into your choice.

My vote is for X Pipe on your 5.4L

I went with the magnaflow muffler DI/DO with a X built in. It worked well for me.

X-pipes make more efficient use of exhaust flow and usually add more hp for most applications. I know that on the newer mustangs there were huge debates between which was better, but the x-pipe WILL give you more power, whereas most who wanted the h-pipe wanted it for the deepest rumble from their exhaust. Overall loudness is about the same, but the x-pipe has more of a drone, similar to exotic car exhaust tones.

Hope this helps!
