Exhaust-HP and Torque Gain & sound ?
Is there a system that give sgood sound, good HP increase and at a minimum keeps the same torque ?
Can you just plop in a series 50 Flowmaster or is it not worth the effort without rebuilding from the Cat all the way to the tip ?
Is there a "Best" combination out there ?

Oregon, you can just replace the muffler only and get an increase. Flowmaster makes a direct replacement for your truck in the 30,40,50 and 70 series. All but the 70 series will require an staight extension pipe. Your exhaust is a 2 1/2 inch and on the 5.4 you could probably get more benefit by going to a 3" cat back. I have the 4.6 and went with flowmaster 70 muffler only. It did improve performance thru all ranges.

Oregon Allen, man you just asked the fifty million dollar question.
I think everyone on this board has a different opinion about this topic, I know, been there and back.
I figure if you want to keep your low end torque and have a nice sound, you have to go with a baffled muffler, better yet, go true duals, and that's all I am going to say, plenty of people will comment on this...........10-4

I think from the Force II thread you can guess what my opinion would be. I think the complete dual exit catback system is worth the extra expense ($321 for my system vs. $50-70 for just a muffler) for a little more performance and better looks. But like Johnny said, just a muffler replacement will get you a performance gain itself.
