Just change muffler?
Should I just go with a 3 chamber Flowmaster, don't want too much rumble or should I have cat back installed? What is the performance differance between the both.

DBoyz, I'm surprised you haven't had a lot of comments on this because there are a lot of different viewpoints. I personally would stick with 2 1/2" pipe and change mufflers, probably a flowmaster. One of the members, Eddie, has had three different systems and ended up putting on a 70 series, the quietest, flowmaster and seemed to have best performance from it. I haven't seen a posting from him in a long time.
If your out there Eddie, how about an update.

Dear DBoyz,
The muffler is the largest source of restriction, so replacing it with a free-flowing unit will help you gain a few horsepower. Using a cat-back system will get you the best performance, because they are a completely engineered system, for your vehicle. The best cat-back systems, in terms of power increase, are consistently the Jardine cat-back systems, followed by Gibson. They are both excellent manufacturers.
Replacing the muffler will get you maybe 5 hp, the Gibson cat-back will get you 10-12, maybe as much as 14hp on the V-8's, and the Jardine setup is worth 15-17hp on the V-8's, generally speaking.
Good luck, whatever you decide. Muffler replacement is cheap, well under $100, while the cat-back systems will run about $300 for either the Gibson or the Jardine, which is why a lot of guys on a budget will opt for just replacing the muffler. You get a nice tone, either way.
Have fun,

Went to an exhaust shop and they said the cat back would be $300.00,just as you said Mike. They do all the mandrel bending of pipes in house, not a prefab kit. Does a system like this(with 1 3 inch inlet and dual 2 1/2 outlets) have as much HP gain or is more for show?

Being the owner of the *Nascar Edition* truck has put a slight cramp on my add-on options, because I don't want to change the stock look of the truck. That's why I only replaced the muffler. I was able to retain the *stock* look without losing the Roush tips. Even re-used the stock hanger that was attached to the original muffler. For a clean and custom look... I used Walker's stainless steal clamping wide-straps. Looks a million times better then muffler clamps(doesn't crush pipe either) and looks cooler then a weld.

I see y'all with the V-8's talking about this 3 inch inlet with dual 2 1/2 outs, and y'all are speaking well of it. Do you think this would work with my 4.2 v6? Only asking cause I don't want to exhale too much for that engine, but Dynomax makes one for $269 and I figure it will look and sound, really good. Just worried about it being too much pipe for that vehicle.

DBOYZ,
Choosing an exhaust system is never easy, there are so many choices out there & depending on individual preference they are all pretty good!! I have the Jardine catback exhaust system, i did a little research on who will give me more "hp" for the buck & found Jardine to give you the most hp. I've also heard the sound Gibson,Flowmaster & a few other brands on my buddies trucks. I chose Jardine because the sound is more deeper & throaty but not overly loud, It also doesn't resonate inside the cabin even at wide open throttle. That doesn't mean to say that the other brands are not good, they are all good & will improve the performance of your truck. Good luck on your choice!!

CA150,
I got the Flowmaster 50 series catback installed and it was way too loud. I went back to shop and they changed out to a 70 series. I think it has a deeper tone than the 3 chamber just not as loud and definetly better performance.
