Exclamation HELP!!! Re. my 4.2L V6

I have a 99' F-150 XLT 4X4 4.2L V6 5-speed. What should I do about the muffler to get a better sound? I am considering just replacing the muffler, should I also cut the bend in the tail pipe out and dump it at the axel, or should I just leave everything but the muffler. Why is the stock muffler so damn BIG? What type of muffler is going to sound the best...period? -AR

Hey jackal I have a 3in flowmaster cat back on my truck and it sounds good, a nice rumble. As for the muffler being so big-looks like a bomb-I dont know. When I had the cat back installed they put a new muffler on and it was the same size,oh well, I can live with that.
