look for an "H" pipe to hook to the system and make sure it is "TRUE" dual out the rear, take and put on the "H" pipe get the off-road version without the cats and bolt on 2 Flowmaster 40 series....now if you want LOUD dont run the exhaust out the rear...instead turn the pipes down about 6" after the outlet on the muffler, if you have to run the pipes out then run them out the side like the Lightning and you will be wearing a hearing aid soon enough....on my Mustang i have 3" stainless exhaust through a off-road "H" pipe to the 40 series (some call em 2 chamber) Flowmasters and they turn down after the muffler 3" outlets, it produces enough noise vibration that itll dance the change in the console at idle.

Can you actually eliminate the cats??? On a 5.4L there are two O2 sensors behind the cats, this would cause your check engine light to come on if I am correct. Plus depending on where you live, you'll never pass emissions. You're better off leaving the cats on and going with a smaller diameter pipe. That'll give it the god awful Chevy sound you're looking for. Plus if you ever get pulled over for being too loud and they see that you dont have cats, it'll cost you a pretty penny to have them reinstalled and to pay the fine. Most muffler shops won't remove catalytic converters unless they are replacing them. It's against the law for them to, unless your vehicle came from the factory with out them. You can however cut them off yourself and show up without them. They'll do the work then.

Replace your multi-cat setup with 2 universal high-flow cats. Replace your mufflers with straight pipe. If you want mufflers for inspection, run a straight pipe THROUGH a larger diameter straight-through design muffler and weld it up. Our environment will enjoy the cats and your truck will LOOK like it has muffler. It's loud and you will quickly sicken of it.

Another alternative is to weld in cut-outs behind the cats. Use bolt on caps, not cable or electric valves.

Put bigger exhaust tubing on it with some Flowmasters. I have also heard that if you angle your exhaust tips to the ground it makes it echo so its louder. I don't know if that would help at all on a truck though because of the height. If your desparate to make it louder you could always break out the old sawzal and git er done

i have "modified" cats on mine and its also a 5.4,i had a turn down with the cats stillon and it sounded like crap mostly cause it was still under the bed i think, but i don't think it'd sound all that great anyway,i had straight pipes from the cats back when i still had em and it was pretty loud but it is LOUD now that i modified em with the flow,it's not bad till you get on it,and there's still not much noise in the cab, plenty outside though,i've been wantin to take the muffler off too but i'm scared of the power loss,i did lose a little power from the cats, but i'm gonna try puttin 2" pipe in insted of the 2 1/4" i've got now, flows sound really good on em,but if you want it as loud as you can get it smaller pipe will make it louder and bigger pipe makes it deeper, and of course the less restriction you have the louder it gets

Here's what you do! Cut the your existing exhaust system, right before the muffler. Then go to jc whitney's site and buy 3 90* 2.5 inch mandrel bent tubes, and some 2.5 inch strait tubing. With those parts you can custom bend the exhaust exit point to be right next to your ear, then you'll have the loudest exhaust system ever you jackass!

Really now, there's no need for name calling here. This forum is for people who enjoy their trucks and are looking to share information. Perhaps you should head on back to whatever rock you crawled out from under and let us help our friend here become the envy of all his neighbors.

OK, sorry for the jackass call! But c'mon why waste board space with a stupid question like this. especially with 8 replies. Shoulda been 1 reply sayin "slap on some headers with your head pipes dumpin strait out the sides." fireman fred if you were so concerned about givin your friends some advice, you should've been busy talkin your pal outta his ridiculous idea, cuz i'm sure u don't want him rumblin down your street when your sleepin.

Hey this is Cory, I started this thread. I just wanted to thank everyone who gave me the ideas to make my truck louder. I just got my truck back earlier this week from the shop because i got my cats taken off. I am now satisfied with the sound of my truck. And for the "kneebuckler" guy...... theres no need to get all pissy about someone having a loud truck.

Hey Cory no ones gettin pissy over here. You asked for eveyones opinion, and i gave you one. No big deal, I live in So Cal and evey ricer has a beer can clamped to the back of his honda/acura. I know old habits are hard to break, but c'mon when are you gonna grow up and realize this ain't the nascar craftsman truck series. Remember driving on public roads is a privelage not your god given right!
