Talking Magnaflow Installed. WOW!

I just had a 3" SI/SO cat back set up with the stainless Magnaflow installed on my 03 Screw w/5.4
All I can say is WOW! My truck sounds 100% better. It really has a nice throaty sound when you step on the gas, not super loud, just right in my opinion. It really does quiet down nicely on the freeway too.
I had a Flowmaster on one of my older rigs and it really droned at highway speed. Maybe it was the old style, not sure. I know guys are saying good things about the newer Flowmasters, and talking to the local shops, they say it's the most common one people ask for, but let me tell you, the Magnaflow sounds awesome.
I had my buddy at work rippin around the block in my truck just so I could hear it from the outside. LOL, we're a sick bunch I tell ya. w0000000t!

Talking Sick? Nope, not us!

Glad you like the Magnaflow. It was my first choice too, however, wifey mandate required I had to choose between a Super Tuner or a cat back system. I kinda sorta got both, cuz I went with a straight pipe and a 1715 Super Tuner for less than $350.

When I had my muffler cut out and straight pipe put in, (tyvm green) I was returning home and about a mile from the house, I called my wife on my cell phone to told her to go out on the porch to see if she could here me and the truck coming.
I was flooring it and saying....
"Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now?"
And we weren't talking about cellular connections either! LOL
Sure we're sick, but we're with 56,000 plus members who understand us!

After reading on the boards about some peoples' experiences, I almost tried the straight pipes without any muffler.
I'm not sure it's really that much different than the Magnaflow.
It's just a straight pipe muffler, you can see right through it. No baffles or bends of any kind. So the sound is probably similar.
Since I went with 3" pipe I had to remove the couner-weight/ballancer thingy but I haven't noticed any problems.

I really thought duals would be best for me (and cool looking too), but I started thinking a good single system because of budgetary constraints.

You guys almost have me convinced that a single system would be best performance wise and cost wise.

I've got to replace the cat also, so I was thinking Magnaflow 93159 cat (replacing the 2 cats that were on the original) with a 5x8x18 Maganflow muffler and the Magnaflow rear exit tail pipe with a stainless tip. This will be 3" all the way back from the y pipe.

I know this muffler will be plently loud, but I like that idea.

2 questions.

1. I can buy the parts at justmagnaflow.com for $255. Should I be able to find a muffler shop to install this for an hour labor?

2. Should I get the Magnaflow y-pipe or should I let the muffler shop do one? The $255 includes the Magnaflow y-pipe and that's the way I'm leaning.

I'm open to suggestions!

BTW, this is on an '88 f-150 4x4 351 automatic

2-1/2" center in, 2-1/2" offset out. i replaced my factory muffler with one of these from magnaflow (18" i think) and i could definitely feel an increase in low end torque. i have a sound clip if you are interested, send me an .email

Kracker, the Magnaflow 14256 (5x8x18) will weld right in to your stock pipe. The shop will have to add some pipe since the factory muffler is so long. I have this on my '04 4.6 and it sounds nice and throaty. You will get a little drone in the cab at 65 mph but it is not overly loud. If you want less noise the 14250 (5x8x24). I bought mine from a local muffler shop, but you can save some $$$ if you go through this guy http://www.performancepeddler.com/

I found this link to an article about a Magnaflow kit install with dyno results. I believe the kit is 3" mandrel bent tubing. It is a si/so set up. The test truck is a stock Supercrew with an Airforce intake as it's only add on.
The results were 15 HP and 2 lbs of torque.

Talking Re: Magnaflow Installed. WOW!

My driver: 2004 F-150 XL Supercab, Longbed, 5.4L

Just got my tune back from Superchips and the Magnaflow 15821 was sitting here ready to be installed. I got home early today and went for it. A real piece of cake! The original exhaust was removed in about 15 minutes as a complete unit from the rear cat tube to the tip. The the Magnaflow was installed in four sections so its easy as pie to do. Primo quality for a SI/SO. And it sounds really nice! Throaty under load but mouse quiet otherwise. No droaning so far as I can tell. Its all stainless.

Great product!

Larry

Fireman P,

I didn't see what size engine that test was on. I assume it was the 5.4??

does the counterweight have to be put back on when you do the exhaust change? i'm looking at purchasing the magnaflow muffler only and just adding the tip to my stock tailpipe. i'm thinking of going with the 3" SI/SO so that i can adda 3" tail pipe later when i can afford it. here in Canada that catback costs me $650 plus the 15% tax. i figured for the price of the muffler which is $200 there is no way a tailpipe should cost me $3-400 dollars. i realize all the hangers come with that but wow. anyways this is the only way i can afford to do it for now and keep the wife happy. i'm mainly going for the sound anyways. that stock exhaust is to wipey sounding compared to Dodge or Chev. i've got the 2003 4x4 screw with the 5.4.

thanks
