long tube vs shorties

are there long tube headers available for a 99 5.4? what is the difference between long and shorties. benefits? disadvantages? i plan on running a supercharger with 12+ psi boost what do i need exhaust wise. i know to big is bad and to much flow is not good either but what are my options? hi flow cats? xpipe hpipe? muffler? what about pipe size. i need to support and estimated 500+hp and torque is the word!!

If torque is what you are looking for, long tube/ equal length runners are the way to go. Shorties are great for tight areas and help support high RPM's that are associated with smaller engines like the 4.6 that are looking form more HP, and have to spin fast to get it.

As far as size, you shouldnt go bigger than 2 1/2 inches. Any bigger will be too big. Or you can opt for a single 3 inch pipe that runs all the way back.

Any kind of performance cat is going to work better than stock, that looks like a honeycomb inside. There are some on the market that you can stick your hand through, and still be legal.

Hope this helps.
