Newbie Questions

Hey all, I'm new to this site because I'm a new F150 XLT 4.6L owner and have a couple of questions about replacing my stock muffler.

Just from reading here, I think I've decided on the Magnaflow so here come the questions:

Most posters only say "Magnaflow SS" but don't mention which one. Oval or Round? If oval, which one, center/center, offset/offset, etc? How long is recommended for something like my truck?

Thanks for any advice. Can't wait to get the good sound!

If you are just replacing the muffler and keeping all pipes, 5x8 oval, 12-22" long, offest in center out is the easiest and most common to install. Round works too, but here is the rule of thumb. The larger the chamber, the quieter it will be for the same muffler design. Duh, less insulation. I would gues that most poeple are satisfied with the 18" long 5x8 offset/center. A little louder than stock to let you know something is different, yet you won't be worried about driving through your neighborhood with obnoxious stares.

The offset/center thing is true for 97-03 F-150's. Take a quick check under the passenger side middle to confirm, but the inlet side should be offset. Don't worry, Magnaflow is still straight through. Just has a slight angle compared to the orientation of the muffler.

Yeah, what APT said.

I just had this done Saturday, had the 18" ss magnaflow put on. Offset in and center out. The muffler guy just had to turn the middle pipe a little to make it work. No bending of pipes.

It sounds great. I would recommend highly. Plus, there is a little more pep in my new baby.

TJ

Ps............it's the 5x8 oval
