How much would it be for true duals?

I'm thinking of finally putting a exhaust on my truck. I would like to know how much it would cost and what to go with. Money is not a unlimited thing with me so I'm thinking just a cat back 40 series Flowmaster system with 4" tips. I love flowmaster's sound.

Mine was custom and it was around $225. Its from the cats back, 2.5 inch pipe, 18" glasspacks and some chrome tips(I think they are Hedman Big Wazoo's)

What all would be need to true dual? I had a glasspacks on two of my rangers and ended up replacing one with Flowmasters. I like the deeper throat. They were V6 though and think is the first truck I had with a V8. So what be the best bang for my buck true duals or just cat back? I really love a loud deep sound.

well for true duals you need 2 mufflers or a single one with dual in/out openings and 2 tips.

I was able to compare mine to a 4.6 with just a single in dual out 40 series and there was a huge difference in sound. His was more mellow deeper then mine, but mine was loud and meaner sounding. If you heard them together you wouldn't believe we had the same motor. I liked mine more cause it was louder.

Josh, what year is your pickup? On mine there were 2 cats on each pipe coming right from the exhasut manifold, they it went over to the other side where the y pipe is and it goes into one, and only the muffler is on that pipe.

How mine is now(with the dual exhasut) , he took out the y pipe and welded a pipe on each pipe that went to the y pipe(lost yet ) then ran them beside each other to the rear axle where one goes over to the drivers side.

What state do you live in, do you have emission checks?
If not you can probably get away with no cats. Like here in Nebraska they dont have emission checks, so I could rip mine off, but the guy that did mine said he wouldnt do it on anything newer than 95.

If you want me to I can make up some pictures of the layout before and after and put them on my yahoo pics site.

I looked closely at my exhaust today. I understand what to do now. I have a 1997 F-150 4.6L 4x4 Off-Road Regular Cab Long Bed. What about the pipe on the driver side does it get close to the fuel tank? What tips look the best out the back or side or infront of the tire? I'm looking about getting 4" tips. Thanks for all yalls help. Also is one muffler or two better for sound.

Josh

Ive heard a couple 4.6's with 40 series and also a 5.4 with true dual 50 series flomasters. Straights are louder but have a little more "blatty" tone, not the muffled controlled sound that mufflers will give you. Straight pipes sound very good overall i highly reccomend that you spend $200 and get stragiht pipes. Screw these $400 exhaust systems with expensive mufflers.

D@mn straight

Anyway Josh, Im not sure if its even possible to run a pipe straight from the drivers side manifold the the rear, because thats what I has going to to and the gas tank was in the way, it might be different on 97's though. You might be able to loop it under the frame so the pipe runs between the framerail and the rocker panel if you were going to exit before the wheels.

Here I made up a little layout of the system. You can see its not really "straight" pipes, but i dont think its really possible.

Its kind of small, but you get the Idea

I would go with to mufflers, I would jsut think they would flow better and sound mellower.

Out the back or infront of the tires both look good. The only thing Ive heard about going out the side before the wheels is that the wheels get coated with exhasut crud and kind of turn yellow.

Good luck

the way my system was done is exactly the way you have the first drawing set up.

There is a guy on ftw that has a body lift and did straight pipes over the gas tank or around it and has the exhaust pipes going between the bed of the truck and the top of the frame.

Just cut the Y pipe up by the motor and run the 2 true dual pipes side by side on the passenger side, then split them around the rear axle for dual tips.
