muffler question (borla,...?)
muffler question (borla,...?)
Hi Guys,
I have a 2000 Ford 4x4 with a 4.6 and was wondering if I could put a true dual exhaust in. Or am I going to have to buy a si/do muffler. Im pretty sure if I buy just a muffler the shop can make the exhaust for me , Right??????? I probably wrong so any advice yall have to give would be great. If I have to go si/do i might go with borla because I found a muffler on ebay for about $120 dollars. Or should I look into getting something else if I just buy the muffler. Im looking for a nice throaty sound and not alot of cracking and popping. Please share any experience you might have with this. Thanks in advance.

I want to get a nice throaty sound as well as gain horsepwer if possible. I dont want to lose too much low end torque. I plan to make other mods like a K&N filter kit and computer chip. I just not to sure on what size muffler to set. 2.5 or 3 in inlet and what size outlets. ive heard that borla and gibson mufflers give a really nice throaty muscle car sound. So i figure if I just buy the miffler i can save some money. Let me know what you think
I had the Borla dual tip out before the rear wheel on my sCab. It sounded cool accept at the top of the RPM range. Started to go a little raspy (read glasspack) on the top end but other than that it was great. I had the Gibson on my Grand Cherokee and it sounded great at idle but turned into a hair dryer on full throttle. I considered a Flowmaster Deltaflow 50 series but ended up going with the Magnaflow 15609 and I'll never go to anything else.
BTW...I was quoted 350 for true duals with two forty series deltaflows and 325 with a magnaflow SI/DO with slash tips. I bought the 15609 for 337 and put it on my self in 40 minutes with common hand tools.

Borla - Just say no!!!!
If you look at my sig you'll see I did the Borla SI/DO...It sounded tiny..I too was looking for the Big V8 throaty sound....
I ended up having the local shop cut the Borla off and install a flowmaster 40. real nice deep V8 sound during acceleration and up to about 2K on the Tach under normal driving then it settles down on those highway trip; however if you put your foot into it you'll wake it back up.
If you have an open intake it will have a head turning growl under heavy acceleration.
hope this helps
