Question Exhaust Systems

What I thought would be a simple upgrade to my truck has turned into a quest for the holy grail. All I wanted to do is put a cat-back system (duals out the rear) on my new F150. I have a

2003 F150 Supercrew
5.4L engine
FX-4 Off-road package
Class III hitch
17" tires

I have looked at Magnaflow/Gibson/Flowmaster/Borla online and none of them have any info on a 2003 model. I know there have been issues with tire interference and not sure if there have been issues with the hitch. I have gone as far as calling Magnaflow Tech support to see if they could confirm that there system would not interfere with anything on the truck. They could not answer the question with any certainty. All the exhaust shops I call can't give me a straight answer either. I have no wish to buy a cat-back system to find out later that I have to remove the spare tire to make it fit. Short of contacting a custom exhaust shop, does anyone have any suggestions. I can't believe that I am the only one out there that is looking for this kind of system on a 2003 Supercrew. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Hey bud,

I know what your're going through. But as far as I know, Magnaflow has the 15749 dual catback. I went with the single, but I believe that is the part number for the dual. Call Full Line Exhaust...1-800-467-9917 and talk to Randy. I think he quoted me $330 for this system, without ship/hand. So, good luck to ya, whatever you decide.

I don't see why there would be any differences between a 2002 and your 2003.

just cut out your muffler and have a Y pipe welded in with dual tailpipes out the back. It sounds really good

Yes its a little tricky owning more than one vehicle, but the 53 chevy is mine and my dads and my dad paid for the restoration, even though he and I did most of the work. We've got around 18-20k in the old red chevy and its a beauty! My dad bought the 98 Effie brand new and im working on paying him off (I drove it since my soph year in high school) and it was a graduation gift, but im working to pay him back. I got the Tracer for 700 bucks last summer and its in great shape for a 93, and im thinking of selling it to buy a 73 chevy wtih a 350 in it as a beater. Oh well its just money LOL! I work hard for it so i can spend it as i please

smarchand,

I have a Flowmaster dual cat-back system that I LOVE! Sounds incredible, like a nicely tuned Mustang GT.

Before I bought my system, I called tech support at Flowmaster. They were really nice and very informative. I can only vouch for them since that's what I bought.

Flowmaster Mufflers Inc.
100 Stony Point Road, Ste 125
Santa Rosa, CA 95401
Phone: (800) 544-4761

I bet they would be able to tell you what they have that will fit.

Lots of times your best bet is to just buy the muffler/s alone and then have the muffler shop custom fit your pipes. That's what I did.

An added plus, the muffler guys often know what sounds best. My shop recommended 3 1/2" tips when a certified mechanic told me to be sure and get 3" cause 3 1/2" would backfire and pop. Mine has never popped, & they sound teriffic. Talk to Flowmaster (or system of your choosing) and a good muffler guy.

Good Luck
