Also looking at pics of the exhaust tips it appears that tip is welded over the pipe with a section of the 3 inch inside the tip, is this the way the they are? is there a reason for it?

400 series stainless steel is also known as Martensitic stainless steel. According to NASA, http://npoesslib.ipo.noaa.gov/techlib/doc147/doc147.pdf Martensitic stainless steels of the 400 series are susceptible to stress corrosion craking. 400 Series stainless steel is also the least expensive stainless available. 300 Series is resistant to stress corrosion cracking but is much more expensive.
A magnet will only stick to higher grades of stainless steel like T-304 or 321.
Looks like price has gone up?
Storm, I just went to the website and it appears the price has gone up. I will probably call and double check, but here is what the web page currently shows-

I just bought a 2002 XLT, super crew, 4x4, FX4, 5.4 today. I think the first thing I'm going to do is the exhaust. Does anyone know what a shop would charge to install this 15609 kit? I don't have the tools or shop to do it myself.
Thanks.......

Richgonfishin,
You really don't need a shop or extensive tools. You can put a cut-off disc on your circular saw to make the 1 cut needed to remove your old system, and then a socket set will pretty much do it unless your old system is frozen on.
I had about 28,000 miles when I put mine on, and the old one came right off no problems.
To answer your question, price for installation will vary. My area the guy wanted 100.00
. I wouldn't pay over $40.00 if I were you

Price increase!!
I'm hoping the price you got yours for is still in effect. I will call on Monday and check. I'm pretty un-automotive and was wondering if there is any other part of the exhaust that should be changed out? I would assume this kit does not include a cataletic converter? I would assume there are better breathing options available. I would also think that unless you have headers, it would not make sense to install a dual kit. If I'm correct the system comes out in one pipe and the dual is for looks. Thanks... Sorry, I'm a fisherman, not a machanic.

I ordered my catback system from fulllineexhaust for my mustang for $300, and I love it!
just had local muffler shop install true duel exaust with magnaflows that exit out behind rear tires. love them they sound great. cost was 175.00 I have had flomasters befor this and i like the magnaflows much better for me, they are not as tiney sounding and they do not make any noise in the cab at speed. also installed a intake system i bought on ebay for 35.00 and it worked great. the only thing is it does not have k&n filter. also installed hypertech. so now i do not fear any chevy. love this truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do you like the Hypertech? I've been racking my brain trying to pick between the Hypertech & Micro Tuner.e354b0210

I just installed the hypertech and then will try the Micro tuner. I will keep the most impressive of the two. If you'd like to know my results, let me know.

I believe Magnaflow uses a 400 series stainless steel which has the lowest amount of nickel of all grades of stainless and the highest amount of iron. As a result, a magnet will not stick to 400 series stainless.
please re-read what you are are saying and think about it.
what does a magnet stick to? nickle...no. iron ...yes
even though 400 is not as good as 300, it is a good product for exhaust and 99% will never have it rust thru.
