Whats the deal with X Pipes
I keep reading about X Pipes. I just went to straight pipes and am wondering what an X Pipe would do for me. I do not want it louder. Will it make the exhaust more restrictive or will it provide more scavenging. As I an running straight pipes I do not need to share the muffler flow between the 2 pipes.
seidler,
I have a true dual set up on my '79 F-100. I have an X-pipe installed. My thinking when intalling this was to balance the exhaust pressure between the 2 banks of the engine. When running true duals each side of the engine is running thru its "own" exhaust. When you connect them they balance each other out. Plus, the exhaust note coming from the pipes is far superior! I have dual exhaust exiting on each side of the truck in front of the rear wheels. So when you put the X-pipe in you get all "8" cylinders making noise from each pipe instead of just 4. It is louder, but much cooler, IMO. I'm sure there are some more people on here that can x-plain an x-pipe and how it works better than me.
