Change the stock exhaust?????

1998 Ford F150 XLT, 4.6L, Auto, 2WD.

Any recommendations on going to a better exhaust from OEM exhaust?

Anything DIY? with or without other mods.

The flowmaster 40 or 50 series will definately sound good...but you might want to hear some of the magnaflow mufflers, I think they sound even more aggressive than the flows.....

Go with a Magnaflow catback system. All stainless, super fit and finish, terrific sound, and you can definitely install it yourself (I did). Don't think you can go wrong with this system.
