Magnaflow Question

Is the 5x8x24 the muffler that comes in the 15609 kit? If not, what does? Looking to do a 3" SI/SO on my supercrew without getting the whole kit. What would the correct PN be?
Thanks!

I believe it is a #14229 that is polished to a mirror finish, unique to the system, but same base part. 3", offest in, center out.

Another question!

Is there any sound difference between a center in, center out versus the offset in, center in? What would the difference be in the different lengths of mufflers as far as sound is concerned?

Thanks!

I'll give you $50 if you can tell the difference in sound between a Magnaflow center in, offset, or any combo, assuming the muffler is the same size. Magnaflows are a straight through design. Center-center would be simple, any offset would still be striaght through, but on an angle relative to the centerline of the muffler. Anyway, you won't notice any difference between them in sound or power.

However, generally size (actually volume) of a muffler relates to sound level, given the same muffler design. The larger the muffler (more insulation), the quieter. Tone should be similar given the muffler design, although larger may = slightly deeper vs. sometimes tinny of smaller canisters.

How many of you guys have welded the Magnaflow system. Also, what material would you recommend as a welding agent so that the weld doesn't rust?

If I had to install a stainless system I'd ask the shop to use stainless wire on their mig welder. It would look nasty to see rusty welds on a nice stainless sytem.

Good luck.

Sorry to reply so late. I would hope that a decent muffler shop has stainless wire for their machine but no telling for sure unless you ask up front. Even if they dont use it on every job it's no hassle to switch the spool over in the machine.
