Exhaust recommendation
Exhaust recommendation
I'm looking into installing a cat back exhaust system on my 1999 4.6. I'm looking for a deep rumble sound and a boost in performance. Does anybody have any recommendations?
I have a 2001 4.6 and i went with a 40 series si/do flowmaster, i cant tell you about parformance but it sounds good even with all 4 cats. I know i got some gains in performance but how much i have no idea i wanted the sound.
I got a Flomaster 40 series delta Flow SI/DO, with 3.5" tips. Just the sound I wanted. Just got it put on so dont kno about performace, but must say I am very happy with the system. I have my pipes running straight out the back. I hope to get pics posted soon. But i dont know how to put them up. Let me know what you chose for a system

Maganflow #15609 3" system for $420 shipped. Or the Borla single 3" stainless system for about the same. Both will give you more performance, great tone, and long lasting stainless. Easy bolt on, or replace the factory y-pipe for $50 more and get even more performance.

Borla is about $100 more than Magnaflow. APT, are the pipes SS, too? I'm interested in whether I should upgrade my exhuast or get some electric fans. If I upgrade, I'm interested in chucking teh Y pipe. Any suggestions for a replacment?

As far as I can read from TruckPerformance site, the whole Borla system is stainless steel.
I am sure you read the message BigDeal got when he e-mailed Magnaflow:

I need some clarification. I had previously understood that this system (#15609 catback system for a Ford F150 SuperCrew) was 'all' stainless (i.e. tubing, muffler, tip and hardware). Recently, on a Ford enthusiast website a member offered a different opinion, indicating that parts of the kit were aluminized (i.e. 'not' stainless). Can you comment on what 'is' and 'is not' stainless steel in this kit?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

MT,
Every piece of this kit is stainless. Every flange, bolt, piece of pipe etc... The muffler and tip are mirror finish stainless steel. This kit is completely stainless, even the internals of the muffler. Thanks for your interest in Magnaflow Performance. -Ellis

Just saw that, too. What a price!!! And I think it is SS all the way around! I'll prob. end up calling Mike for his set-up. Magnaflow w/ y pipe. I'm going for the electric fans before I get rid of the Flowmasters.
THX.

Magnaflow by far. I had a Flowmaster, and now I have magnaflow, and the difference in performance was night and day. No drone in the cab, more power, its an easy question for me. I would never put another flow on my truck, ever, I have been there and done that.
This was something I posted on another thread:
Maybe it was just my bad experience with Flowmaster, but one of my baffles also broke out and had to be rewelded. I always say buy whatever makes you happy. Why make a decision based on what others say, do whatever you want to do. It is just my opinion, but I love my magnaflow setup, and I simply would not want anything else. From the minute I got my Flowmaster system, I was not happy with it, and always regretted my decision until I actually got my current setup, sure I liked it a little at first, but I always had that nagging voice in my head saying why didnt I do it right the first time. When I got my original setup, I did it for the reason that many others do, and that is simply because every exhaust shop in my area carries Flowmasters for a decent price, and I simply hadn't heard of Magnaflow and really knew the differences that existed between them. Since then, I have recommended Magnaflow to all my friends, and everyone that has gotten them loves them, and would not want anything else. If sound is all you want, Flowmasters have that "Flowmaster tone" that everyone knows, if you want performance and a deep "muscle car" sound, I would go with Magnaflow. I can say that after I got my Flowmaster, and a few months later I started reading about everyone loving there Magnaflows, and getting a performance increase when switcting from a Flowmaster, Gibson, ... I knew that I wanted a Magnaflow, and I in no way regret my decision. When I had my Flowmaster, I didnt want to accept that there was somethign better out there, I didnt want to admit that what I had was not as good as what was out there, and I would justify to myself that my Flowmaster was good, until I finally changed over.
