Question Magnaflow catback

I had my '98 F150 XLT extended cab in the shop today having the front brake rotors replaced before they shook me out. While waiting, there was these ads on "Magnaflow High performance catbacks" I had the guy behind the counter quote me a price for the single 3" tube w/straight flow thru muffler in stainless steel. $400! They install of course. Has anyone had any experience with this system. I'm also considering the Gibson single 3" catback. I have the 4.2L V6 with a Superchip and K&N filter. Runs pretty good.
What a difference new rotors made!
Thanks ahead of time, Billy 12 string

Hey Billy,
Welcome to the board. I had the Magnaflow installed on my 5.4 Screw a few weeks ago. This is my second truck with the Magnaflow. It has a real deep tone, and gives you gobs of low end power. Best part, Magnaflow has a lifetime warranty. Flowmaster does not. I'm not going to talk down Flowmaster, cause it does sound good. It's just too loud for me. The Gibson is more quiet than the Magnaflow, so you could say the Mag is the middle of the road between the three. Hope this helps.

Wink

Thanks SilverCrew for the help with the MagnaFlow decision. That's the tone I'm looking for, plus opening up the engine more. After I install this exhaust, I'm going to put an Air-Raid on the end of my K&N filter. Some people think I have a V-8 when they ride along with me. It pulls a 26 foot camping trailer too! Henry would be proud!
I've been fairly busy but will try to post more stuff. Thanks again SilverCrew!

I received an e-mail from MagnaFlow. They don't offer a performance exhaust system for the V6. I wonder what the clerk who quoted me a price was looking at? Life in the fast lane.

Cool

You could consider a custom setup with a universal muffler that would fit that application in a Magnaflow; just an idea.

Lightbulb

Thanks for the idea Max, I'm also considering a Dynomax system. A local parts store carries their product so I'm going to price it and maybe go that route. As much rain as we're getting here in Ohio, that'll be a good raining day project.
