Post JC Whitney Exhaust cutout

Has anyone used the exhaust cutout that is in the JC Whitney catalog? It was on sale for 16 bucks so i bought one. It is heavy duty cast iron but the valve inside looks like it was welded in by a 5 year old and it doesn't seem like it will seal too good. I haven't installed it yet i am just wondering if i bought a piece of junk. Anyone have experiance with this?

I saw the same thing, but I think they are not emissions legal in some states.

Cool

They've been selling those for decades. The valve will not seal well for very long. Then you have it screwed up, yet welded in. An alternative is a Flowtech Warlock cutout muffler or a weld-in cutout with block off plate, gasket, and wingnuts.

Back in my senior year of high school, my friend and I put a set on his 1960 383cid Dodge..

We skipped school one day, and went to Canada -- blasting along the Queen's Highway (301 I recall) -- at a blistering speed -- of course with the 'dumps' open.

The heat melted the weld/solder/chewing-gum which held the flapper -- and we lost one (flapper) in the process.

The next day, I borrowed his car and did a burnout in front of the high school -- for which I'll never forget the cop saying: "...good afternoon -- a little noisy isn't it...".

That resulted in my first trip to court.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Thumbs down

Yeah,

I put one on a friends truck once. It is the biggest rip-off I have ever seen. I paid about $300 for my whole system and it works great. But on his JC Whitney the weld burned off and the whole system had to be taken out and thrown away .

Don't use it man.
