Exhaust Routeing
I have a 2001 S-Crew 4x4 lariat and I have heard alot about dual exhaust out the back. The problem I ran into was that I wanted semetry one pipe on each side of the spare not two outs on the side. I don't want to boil a driver side shock or run to close to the gas tank. My local exhaust shops told me I would have to drop the spare to get my 2 out the back. Also is there such a thing as 2 much exhaust - like dual 3"s 1 from each cat? HELP!

yes there is such a thing as too much exhaust size.with the exception of supercharged motors.
true dual 3inch pipes on a small block is way too high by my book. backpressure is used to help pull air in the intake valve. there is a very slight time when both valves are open at the same time. if you eliminate this backpressure, you loose power.
nearly everyone i ever talk too about exhaust, including a former NRHA top fuel car driver, has told me that 2.5 is the best single pipe and 2.25 is the best dual pipes for low end torque.
this doesn't mean you can jump up to 3 or 4 inch tips/exits for sound though.

You can run duals out the back and still get to the spare. It is pretty close on the spare and the drivers side shock but it can be done! I have the setup on my Crew!
