Post Dual exhaust on an inline-6

A friend of mine has a 94 F150 with the I-6 engine. My question is why cant a single in dual out muffler be put on? because the muffler shops say it wont work, and it would backfire alot. Does this make any sence to you guys because i sure dont get it?

thanks

Any kind of muffler should be OK.

Perhaps they don't understand what he's asking them to do... a "dual exhaust" is, in some people's mind, different than a single-in/dual-out muffler. Tell him to be specific.
