Post Duals and the Oxygen sensor?

Guys i need to find out how they deal with the O2 sensor on a dual exhaust setup. I have a Lightning and it only has one muffler
and if i go with a single like say a Flowmaster it doesn't flow enough. So i have to use two flowmasters. I need to know how you get buy with the oxygen sensor...? Maybe
have the muffler shop fabricate some type of
crossover before the mufflers that the o2 sensor can be installed in? Please help.
Thanks-Bryce

Howdy Fribab,

I am speaking strictly from the standpoint of a 4.6 liter owner, but if the Lightning is similarly configured there are no o2 sensors to worry about anywhere near the muffler. The muffler shop just cut off the 2.5 inch "y" pipe that joins after the cats and o2 sensors and installed new dual 2.250 pipes and mufflers. If I'm correct in believing your engine has a blower you may even be okay with 2.50 inch pipe.( more air in means more has to get out)Mike Troyer, who is the reigning world champ on Ford computer chips, sees these trucks on the dyno all the time.He might be able to give you some hard numbers on H.P. and torque. FYI, I had 2.5 inch pipes at first and noticed a slight torque loss. I had them replaced with 2.250 pipes it put my truck right back in the saddle again. I really like my duals, but there are some good cat-back kits as well. Find a GOOD muffler shop. Trust me don't get a good ole' boy job like I did at first. You may pay a few dollars more, but it will be worth it. Good luck and enjoy your new vroom vroom pipes.(my daughters terminology)

Question

Have you considered a higher flowing muffler?

these guys are right, i have dual straight pipes, all i did was have the muffler cut off, a y-pipe welded in, and 2 1/4" pipe run straight out the back...did have 3 1/2" tips, but that's another story...good luck, Rich
