Lightbulb My Banks V-10 Installation Problem

I installed the Banks PowerPack today, well the Ram Air, Headers, Collector Pipe only.

You see the 2000 Crew Cab Short Bed 2WD I have had the catalytic converter flange located forward of the transmission cross member, while the Banks collector flange lands rearward of the cross member. This is an approximately 20" difference. Now I'm not sure what to do except fabricate a 3" straight pipe (~55" long) with a flange on one end to attach to the Banks, and the fit to the muffler on the other, this will eliminate the cat.

Yes, right now the truck is running with open headers, and it is a bit loud, but sounds impressive.

It took two of us about 8 hours to get to this point, and the Banks directions do need a little work. The headers, as all headers are, or a bit tough to install (~4 hours). Some of the header bolts are very difficult to install and tighten, but not impossible. One of the other tough parts was getting the stock muffler apart from the catalytic extension pipe. We tried heating and hammering, we finally had to air chisel two slits and then destroyed the end to get it apart. The factory clamps are so strong and tight that they crimped both pipes such that they won't come apart.

It's taking forever to get to the point of getting the system installed, and unless you need (or want as bad as I did) the headers, I think I'd recommend cat back systems at this point.

Here is a WEB page with details on my problem and some images of the issue

I'll keep everyone up to date, and how it goes.

Thanks,
Will

Nice post! It looks like you have really bit off a good chunk on this mod huh? Good luck and keep us up to date. Do you have any pre Mod HP data so you can tell us what you gain?

cphilip,

THANKS! I have a WEB page on where I'm at on the Banks Installation, (HERE)

As for HP/TQ curves I have base line and with a fresh (un-learned) Chip, and once the Banks is installed I will go back and get another run. The Automatic makes it hard to get proper numbers, but we should still see the improvement. The information can be found HERE.

Thanks,
Will
