Question Need advice on exhaust for 4.2l

Hello all. This is my first post but I must say that I have been reading the message boards for the past couple of days and I am impressed by the way you folks pass around advice. Here is my dilema, I have a 2000 4.2l v6 and I want to do an exhaust mod before ordering my superchip. There are so many choices and I wanted some feed back on different exhaust systems. I like the aggressive look of the gibson super truck but I really don't know a thing about their system. Does the side exhaust fry the rim like the '97 model? how does it sound and where is the power gain? I had a flowmaster on my previos truck but this is my first fullsize and I needed to know which seris is the best if I go that route. Please help me.

i went with a glasspack but i'm going to get rid of that quickly and have the entire system rehung with a 2 chamber flowmaster and new chrome tips. I like the glasspack but feel I might get a little performance out of the flowmaster and the system is getting redone because I actually paid for 2 retards at Meineke to do it half-assed.

There is some one on here that has a 4.2L w/ a gibson.

Future Mods= Billet Grille, driving lights, sunroof. the heartbeat stops here.

Cool

I have a gibson sweptside with the 4.2.It is just a little bit louder than stock. With the three inch pipe I lost some low end but it lets the engine rev alot easier so the power moved up into the 2500 to 3500 rpm range.Any other question be happy to answer.

You can't go wrong with a Flowmaster (for performance). And they make several types so you should be able to get the sound you want.

Hey, my vote also goes for the Flowmasters!!! I didn't really notice a change in performance either way, but I sure do love the sound!!! I've had several people tell me it's the best sounding V6 they have ever heard!!! Hope this helps . . .

Cool

The swept side is a single 3 inch in and single out.I think the sport truck is single in and dual out both come out by the back tire. Also from what I have read it's better to go with a single outlet on the v6 unless you stay with the smaller dia. exaust.

Question

Mike is the Gibson swept side the same setup as the Super Truck or is it an entirely different muffler?

Snow White, If you want to keep the cost down you can just replace the factory muffler with a flowmaster, thats what I did. My local muffler shop charged me about $80.00 for everything. I took the money I saved and put it toward a Superchip. I didn't really notice much improvement in power, but it sounds much better than stock. Is your truck a 5-speed or auto?

Snow White~
Hey, I have single inlet, double outlet. I'm honestly not sure about series and/or chambers. I was not given a choice when I bought the muffler . . .

By the way, the Dallas guys are having a get together the weekend of the 21st and 22nd. If you're interested go check out the info. in the Events and Happenings thread!!
