Where is everyone?
I know therea re a bunch of Excursions out there, I see them. So are any of you out there? I know you're modding them.
Let's here about it even if you're not modding them.

I gotta get the guy in town here to get on this site, he has a black limited Excursion, with 35" MTs and prolly 3 inches of lift. He hangs out near the 4Wheel Parts in Edmonton.
If you're out there, show off your truck! It's wicked.

Family Ride,
I bought my wife a Expedition like yours, only 4wd back in March and she loves it. I have a 00 Excursion 4WD with a V-10 and 3.73LS. Its a Limited and I have added Edelbrock IAS shocks, BFG All Terrain KO, heavier steering stabilzer and replaced the front bump stops with Timbren load boosters. The mods have improved the ride greatly. I also added a K&N air filter and opened up the closed space that the air cleaner snorkel goes into. I've had it one year and at 20K miles get 11 in town and up to 15 mpg on the highway(just under 75 mph).
I've had no major problems, Ford has replaced front brake pads and rear helper spring bumpers under TSB's. The running board lights on the drivers side were not sealed properly and filled up with water and mud. They replaced the whole assembley. The only other problem was the clunk under the drivers floor. Ford replaced the drivers side sway bar link and I tightened the cab mount under the drivers feet. Now the reverse sensing system gives a false constant beep in hot weather, probably a bad sensor. Let's hear from some other Excursion owners.

Yes, we have life!!
Hey 390GT,
That's not bad milage! My sister and brother in law have one and I don't think they get better than about 12 on the hwy.
Did the Edelbrocks help that much? I've got them and love them. I've tried to get my Brother in law to start mod'n but no go. His is a Limitd 4x4, V10 and 3:73's as well.
I bet that airbox mod has got to have helped you some. Too bad there really not much out there as far as exhaust that doesn't sound really bad for the V10.
Thanks for your post!!

Family Ride,
The mileage jumps up after about 15k miles. I don't think it will get much better, even with a free flow exhaust. Most of the restriction is in the catalyst. The shocks did help alot, mostly in corners and braking, less sway and dip. They are stiffer and smooth out all but the largest potholes. The front leafs are the weak link on the Excursion front end. Replacing the bump stops decreased bottoming out, but I might replace the springs eventually with F-550(x-code) springs. The steering stabilizer took away the shimmy in the steering wheel and helps control the front end on rough roads. The BFG's ride much better than the Firestones. They smooth out gravel and dirt roads. They have much less rebound. The only other mods will be sway bar bushings(polyurethane) at the front axle mounts and maybe a rear anti-sway bar.
I'ts too bad Ford can't offer a suspension upgrade option, like Bilstein shocks and rear sway bar. It would save alot of time and money for us and might help with poor sales. I read in Detroit News that new incentives are out for the Expedition and Excursion. Sales are down 13 anf 26% respectively.
I'd like to add IASshocks to the Expedition. My wifes Expy seems to float and bounce alot on stock shocks. I may have a new project if she let's me near it.

Wow, I thought everyone else with an Excursion had died off! I've never seen you before 390GT, nice to see someone else modding the 'ol beast. I want to do the Hellwig front sway bar and the IAS shocks soon, as well as a Ravin Muffler soon. My trucks specs are shown in my sig. Nice to see other Excursion owners on here!
I looked under my brother in laws 4x4 and was surprised to see there wasn't a rear anti-sway bar. Has anyone installed one yet? I think I've seen that Helwig does make one.
I'd have to believe that would make a huge difference.

I've thought about the rear sway bar from Hellwig. The combination of the IAS shocks and load boosters on the front really help sway. A rear sway bar may help even more. Some guys over at Ford-Diesel.com swear by them. It would be a must for trailer towing.
I still think the front springs lack travel and really hurt the ride over rough roads. A quicker way to solve this may be to replace the rear shackles on the front springs. Con-ferr sells a shackle kit for the F-350 that raises the front 1 inch. I'm wondering if this would help prevent the hard bumps over rough roads.

I did that upgrade on my Expy, Hellwig rear bar and Edlebrocks all the way around. Best this for that vehicle. I bet it would really help for the Excursion. Ask 'Ride about upgrading the front-end sway bar bushings...
Sounds good.......
The excursion tows like a dream even with out it, I tow a 6500lb rig and its like its not even there, but that rear sway bar would be nice, I wasn't even aware that there wasn't one.
I just looked on www.truckperformancecenter.com, and they don't have a listing for a helwig rear sway bar for a 4WD Excursion, they have the Front and rear sway bar for a 2WD, but only the front for a 4WD, maybe they don't have a fitting for one?
390gt...
Can you please pass along some info about the TSB's. My Excursion has some brake vibration in the front end. I have about 6000 miles on it. I would really appreciate any info you have.
thanks

Ask for an Oasis report from dealer. They may be under a special service message. My pads were replaced for a rattle. Check out this site.

With the Intake and TB spacer I saw an increase of 1 MPG or more. Throttle response is very quick, and the sound is awesome. I went from about 8.7-8.9 to 9.8 mpg towing and at points I was up to 10.2mpg durring the trip. I tow a 6,000lbs rig, so the full mpg improvment is pretty good, I thought. Around town I can get anywhere from 9.9-10.9 mpg, but on the highway with out the trailer I've seen it as high as 13mpg. If you have the money to spend I would go for it for the gas milage and the sound, no real power improvment, but I guess I wasn't expecting too much and for $95, I think the mileage increase covers the cost.
