Where is everyone?
We own a 2000 Excursion Limited, black, 4X4, 3.73LS, tow mirrors, pretty much loaded. It is a nice ride, but it just got out of the shop. We had to take it there 3 times because somethign was wrong with the fuel system and we couldnt figure it out. 1st time they replaced the fuel pump, same thing happened, it eather died out while driving or wouldnt start. 2nd time back they replaced the WHOLE instrument cluster because the guage was reading we had gas, but there was none in the gas tank. Worked for about...2 miles and it died again. 3rd time back they found a loose wire under the hood that when they touched killed the car. Other than the past few weeks the truck has been awesome, and the only thing that was wrong was a loose wire!!!! Sometiems i wonder who is working on our cars there......

I know what you mean. I have a nightmare story about a Mercedes dealer that we've done business with for about 12 years. About 6 years ago we had a car (with only a few thousand miles) in for a major issue. Head gasket replacement within 3000 miles. Ok, it happens even to MB's. That went great as usual; no problem. After that we started having problem of it feeling as though it would drop to 2 cylinders while driving. Well, 3 trips in and nothing found until the 4th time it died and wouldn't start. Long story short, when they did the head gasket, they left a wire harness loose. That was it. Several trips to the dealer, frustration out the wazzo and stranded, in the middle of the night the day before our next appointment to look into it, and it was a loose harness. Awesome car from then on until a couple years later when we replaced it.
Even the so called pro's don't think to go back to the basics of troubleshooting.

New Excursion
Hello Guys,
I recently purchased a new Excursion limited 4x4 V10 and would like to know what mods are the best for the money and where did you get them?
Edit- It is equipped with 430 gearing w/limited slip and all of the options.

We bought a 2000 Wedgewood Blue Excursion 4X4 Limited 10 months ago and have driven it almost 14000 miles. The only thing we've been back to a dealer for was to repair a "skipping" CD changer and to "rebalance" a tire. This thing is great! Has anyone else noticed a major difference in cold weather vs. hot weather fuel mileage?? Ours averages about 12.7 when the Temp. is below about 50 and about 13.7+ when the Temp. is above 50. So far, we have not modified anything.
We've had our beast for 1 year and love it. No trips to dealer except for schedule maint. Got 2 kids in car seats and the dog. When we haul the horse, can hardly tell he's back there. Hope to see more Excur posts in here. Not many mods yet (is a lease, so have to be careful), but have added a front cover set to keep the bugs off the grill, cargo mat in back (with the velcro blocks) and a strut to hold up the third seat when I don't need it, adds even more hauling room !!
Hi David Defabio,
Welcome to F-150online, & congratulations on your V-10 Excursion Limited, that's a very nice vehicle!
The top 3 best bang-for-the-buck mods for your V-10 Excursion are:
1.) Optimize the powertrain programming with the Superchip. This will give you a maximum gain of 30 horsepower and 48 lbs./ft. of torque in that 2000 V-10 Excursion, and is the single best bang-for-the-buck mod. This product is available from us, and you can either call us at our number below or just use our online ordering system right here, which you can access just by clicking on the link just below in our signature line.
2.) Reduce the restriction in the air intake tract, using the Air Force One kit. It's the best of all the various airbox elimination kits, and will add another 20 horsepower to that V-10 motor. This product is available in the F-150 Online Store, or it can be ordered from us, and we do offer "combo deals" on those 2 items when ordered together, just give us a call for details.
3.) Reduce the restriction on the exhaust side, using a good cat-back exhaust system. There are a lot of them on the market, they'll all add horsepower but some will also actually reduce low-end torque, so you have to be careful there, and stf teh typical Flowmasters, etc.. I like Magnaflow & Gibson for these trucks, and I would suggest touching base with Roger & Janet Lemere, who run the F-150 Online Store, for advice on that, as they carry a number of different exhaust systems, including the Gibson. Their number is 916-361-2510, and they're good people.
There are plenty of other things you can do to incrase power further, such as convert over to electric cooling fans, and install a set of underdrive pulleys. That's about it for the really low-cost power adders, there are still plenty of things you can do, but it's at about this point that they start getting more expensive in terms of what it costs for reach horsepower gained. Headers would come next on the bang-for-the-buck list, but most V-10 owners don't install headers, this is completely up to you.
I have listed those Top 3 mods in order of power gained per dollar spent, as that is how most people like to do their mods, the most cost-effective mods first, you can do them in any order you like.
If you'd like to go over this in more detail, or map out a good game plan to get your performance up to where you want it for the least outlay, etc., please feel free to give us a call and we'll be happy to go over all of this with you. We're open Mon.-Fri. from 10am to 7pm Eastern time, if you'd like to call.
Best of luck with your new Excursion!

Thank you for the info, I will indeed look into the Chip and intake package.
I do have one question though, if I were to use the SuperChip does it fit into the stock computer case?
Can it be swapped out fairly quickly for service appointments at the dealer or for warranty service?
I should have noted my limited is also wedgewood blue.
I made one modification two weeks ago,
I had ordred my limited with the newly available adjustable pedals, heated mirrors/seats and the camper/towing springs so it sits 2" higher than a normal Excursion.
It sits at the same height as the F250 SD w/Snow plow springs.
I was able to install a set of new Mickey Thompson Baja Radial MTX 315x75x16" tires on American Eagle 16x10" wheels without needing a lift and I am very happy with this combo.
The difference in handling was amazing and the truck is now much more blaanced in corners and when driving at speed.

Hi David,
Sorry it's been so long to get you a response, things have been a bit hectic lately what with recent events that I haven't had a chance to get back to this section until now...............
The Superchip doesn't actually fit "into" the computer case, but it does fit into that black plastic shroud that covers the computer in the Super Duty vehicles, which includes the Excursions. The Superchip attaches to the same place any performance chip does, on the J3 male edge connector on the back of the computer. There is a chip that actually can fit into the computer case itself, it's called the Diablo, and we carry that as well.
Yes, you can remove & replace the Superchip very quickly and easily after the first-time installation, and as soon as you remove it, your powertrain computer will reactivate it's internal eprom chip that stores the factory program.
Glad you got the adjustable pedals, that's nice to have, we go that in our 2001.
Have fun with your new Excursion, & if you'd like more info on the chip & intake, etc., please feel free to give us a shout, our contact info is just below.
