New to the diesel world!
Hello, fellow Excursion members i want to ask you guys a couple of questions, im new to the desel world and im looking to get an awsome ford excursion limited! I dont know what the pros, cons of the bahemiths sized trucks are.
My first truck is Ford expedition and i still do have it but looking around i heard the expo waste more fuel then an excursion.(true/false) and also what engine is best? im thinking about getting the 6.0L becuase of the 5 speed transmission on the 03-05 but its more of throwing a rock and hitting which ever it lands on.Do the diesel engine require less mantinance?(true/false) im still very young and i wont have much money for mantinance(i will for tire, brakes, ect) Im not going to be hualing so much (if any) just more of daily driver-I dont rally care about the diesel, i like driving big!!!
Lastly, is the limited the top of the line model? i like my trucks to be fully loaded not XLT or XLS(no offence to anyone).
p.s. is there anything i should look for? like i know to look for leaks and such but like anyother things? i dont want to get a LEMON
Thanks for answering my question, always have been an excursion fan i guess
that mean im have to change my user name

Well i know that the first 00-02 6.0 had problem but i was talking about 04 or 05 , there a reason why it replaced the 7.3 right? and the v10 ok but man gas? 12.mpg? i wish ford put a 5 speed on that then maby it would be better!
im also be traveling alot from LV to Denver or Georgia so pretty long distance!

If you are going to buy a 6.0 get your writing hand warmed up and get a couple extra boxes of checks. They are expensive to maintain and fix when they break and the best milage I have seen out of my truck is 15 on the highway and I have only seen that once other than that I am seeing 13-14 on the highway.

Do you work on your own vehicles because you can save some money on the maintanance side of it but most of the other stuff has to be done at the dealer because they have the scanners to run the diagnostics on these engines. If you dont work on your own truck it is not uncommon to walk out of the dealer after paying 200 to change the oil and fuel filters.

ok, thanks for the advice and yes i work on my own vehicle and i have changed plugs & coil on my expo (PAIN!) but dam i guess i will stick to the expys or a navigator. BUT i might sacrifice all that just for the Excursion i love those trucks!!!
@f150fella08-Why would you replace fuel Injectors? i never replaced them on my expo.

For some reason the dont last or they get starved for fuel by a plugged filter or running the truck low on fuel. I know the 6.0 has a taste for injectors for some reason and at 250 a pop plus labor to change them is expensive. I changed two in my truck last fall and it was 1300 and then two weeks later the FICM (fuel injection control module) took a dump at 800 to replace it. If you really want a diesel go buy one but just be ready to reach deep to fix it.
