New Excursion Owner

I have had two crew cab f250 diesels so far, both with the 7.3L. The wife would like to have a few kids soon, and with the pets we already have, a Crew Cab is starting to feel cramped on our road trips.

So we decided to look for excursions about six months ago. After looking for a few we found an irresistable deal on one of our latest trips, and decided to pick it up.

She's Green, that lovely forest green, with all the bells and whistles. 2003 Excursion with the 7.3L diesel. Last year they put them in I think, and if I remember right, only the first couple runs on the assembly line got the 7.3L diesel. Dunno if that means I got the better tranny or not, but given my experience with the 7.3 and the plan to make her a family vehicle. We will be keeping her a long time.

She is not without her imperfections. She has a couple dings on the front bumper, and the driver side seat is well worn. However, in my mind those are very small things, when the wife is happy.

I will see about getting pics up in the next couple of days.

Congrats man... honestly, good deals have little things like that. You can always get them fixed if you so chose. Pics

I don't think they ever put a 5R110 behind a 7.3 - check your door sticker. A 4R100 will be trans code "E" or "9", a 5R110 would be code "B".

Sorry gents won't be getting the pics up anytime soon, in the middle of a move. If things calm down maybe by the end of the week.

BTW, I purchased some extra key fobs from one of those Key fob dealers on ebay, but they are not working.

Mine has the code on the back:
2L3T-15K601-AA
Theirs has:
3B:2L3T-15K601-AB
4B:2L3T-15K601-AB

FCC ID and CAN ID match.

When I go to program, can only get the one to program.... am I doing something wrong?

One last thing: On our 1997 crew diesel... I did not want to pay the hundreds of dollars for the cold air intake when I could just replace the stock airbox and plumbing with an enlarged circumferance crome tube, and stick a high flow conical semi truck exhaust in the same volume of space. Whole rig cost me $35 for the filter, 30 for the chrome piping, and $10 for the adapter.

Has anyone tried something like this with the excursion?

I'm looking for an Excursion but they are hard to find since people keep them forever.
I've heard the 7.3 is a better, more bullet proof option so am looking for an '03but if the right 6.0 shows up I might get it.

Is there a good Excursion site?

I looked at a couple of Excursions before I bought my Expd. The only decent ones I could find were V-10s or beat to crap. Thought about a V10 but really would like to be able to pass at least one gas station.

BE PATIENT!!!!

it took me six months of looking to find ours, and we just happened to see it on autotrader while visiting my parents at their winter home for thanksgiving.

we found the 03 there. Not sure what to tell you about the difference though m8.

7.3 is by far much more lenient on maintenance, but the 6.0 is just as good with proper maintenance, and has a better tranny attached to it to give you a couple mpg boost.

Whatever one you are looking for, decide on it now, and do not take any substitutes.

The one I found was not without its faults. Already had to change the alternator and batteries.

will do Vycan. Took a look at eBay and lots of options available (more than I thought) so will focus on west coast and Texas X's.
I'll post when I've got it.

use ebay, autotrader.com, cars.com, craigslist, and call all the used car dealers in your area asking for you very specific excursion requirements... very important you do not settle for less than you want.

this is true since diesels are something you should plan on having for quite a while. im getting ready to sink a couple bills into an egr delete, headstuds, and some good tunes for mine to make it run a lot longer
