gas milage??

Im learning about the Ford Excursion, but idk what to believe. Some sites have blogs that praise the creation, others say stay far away. I want to get the best gas milage one can get, but which motor? what milage can i expect. The EX from the years 2000-2004 seem to be in my price range. Are there any real warnings out there?

well the diesel engine will give you the best gas mileage, with that being said the 7.3 is the best, very reliable.

A 5.4 Excursion is underpowered.

V-10, a beast and a beautiful motor. Will last 350K w/o any major problems. The Excursion is an icon. Mileage? not so much. but, if you are concerned about mileage, you shouldn't buy it. Kinda like a yacht... if you ask how much it costs, you cant afford it. There's a saying about the V-10... it represents how many MPG you'll get. Or, I wish I got.....
If you drive them hard, the first time you replace the brakes/rotors- you'll be cured of driving them hard....

Talking about underpowered....A 4.2L F150 is the epitome of Underpowered!! The 4.6L F150 was bearly strong enough!!!

That's what I thought originally! The 5.4 wasn't big enough until I test drove ours. Ford's torque @ Low RPM's is what matters. We traded in the 5.3 Suburban for the Excursion.

Plus if it was way underpowered then (according to Autozone's numbers), Why would Ford make 1/2 the 2WD Excursions w/ the 5.4L?

Ford does makes some stupid decisions, like stopping making the Excursion, but they have been very good design wise!
