Exclamation Better Fuel Economy And Pulling Pwr

PLEASE HELP !!!! 2003 FORD EXCURSION 7.3 LT DIESEL, 110,000 MILES, COMPLETELY STOCK. LOOKING TO IMPROVE MILEAGE AND BETTER PULLING POWER. I AM ONLY GETTING ABOUT 11 MPG. HORRIBLE !!!! WITH DIESEL PUSHING $3./GAL SOMETHING HAS GOT TO WORK. JUST ORDERED 4" EXHAUST, TURBO TO TAIL, WHAT ELSE COULD HELP WITH OUT PUTTING CHIP ON IT? ALSO CONSIDERING LARGER AIR INTAKE. ANY SUGGESTIONS? HOPE FOR A REPLY FROM A FELLOW EXCURSION OWNER.

THANKS

Wow, 11 MPG! How did you get that?, Jeez, I wish I could get 11. I get 9.5, but then again I have the V-10 gasser. Anyway, breathing is the best way...Air in, air out- Improve the flow on both ends, and you'll do better. Or, keep a KIA sephia in the wayback, and drive that when diesel gets too expensive.

Yeah my dad has the V10 and he says he gets 10 on the highway...I am happy with my 14-16 with my 5.4 24v

18-20 city driving???? Uh ya ok.

11 MPG for a stock 7.3 Ex. means something is wrong if you're driving habits are the culprit. You aren't going to get MPG up to where they should be (15-20 range) by any aftermarket goodies. Even if you do, have you figured out how long (years) it'll be before you get those aftermarket goodies paid for in saved fuel cost?

Something else is going on. A 7.3 can get 20-22 HWY and much better that 11 in the city unless it's stop and go cold weather driving.

My sister-in-law has a 01 7.3 excursion. Without the turner set to stock=13mpg in town with it set to 90 hp she gets 18. Everything else is stock.
From what I'm told the best modification for fuel mileage improvement is to put a block of wood under the accelerator.
