Question Excursion PSD vs V10

I'm looking at a couple Excursions and I'm curious to see what your opinions/experiences are on a 2003 Excursion PSD vs a 2004 6.8L V-10. What realistic gas mileage can I expect for the diesel and what can I expect to get in the V-10? Positives and negatives of a diesel engine, maintenance costs (oil changes, filters, etc), repairs costs, etc. The 2003 PSD costs about 5k more than the 2004 V-10 with similar mileage and options. I have not done the math yet, but it seems that the costs would even out given diesel fuel costs vs gas.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!

This has been beaten to death over on the Superduty site. Diesel vs gas V-10. The diesels are getting about 18.5 and the V-10 are getting about 12.5. Fuel is different all over the country, so you have to figure it for were you are. Your miles per year makes a big difference. Diesel are hands down better if you do 25K or more per year and you plan on keeping the truck, you'll break even in a few years. Anything under 20K per year your better off with the V-10 unless you tow a lot. In NJ, diesel ia about .30 more per gal.

GeorgeK-NJ pretty much sums it up. You don't say what PSD either, which would make a big difference for a 2003. If it's an early 6.0, you need to be carefull. May not be an issue, buit it could be/has been.

If you don't need the PSD and it's just a light tower and people mover, the gasser may be just fine. If that applies, and you're in a cold climate, the gasser gets more points.

FamilyRide - thanks for the reply. I went with a 2004 Eddie Bauer gasser and we love it.

I've never been in an Expedition but have heard it rides nice. The Excursion is bigger, heavier truck and has a big truck feel on bumpy roads. It's a great ride when cruising the highway.

My mom has a 2001 EB Expy and it rides decent. It has the air ride suspension in the back or whatever. I don't like the ride much at all. Seems a little stiff compared to my grandpa's Excursion. His truck rides like a dream. Much higher off the ground (duh) so it feels like a big rig but rides like a caddy.

If it were up to me, we would be rolling around in the Excursion and trade in the expy.

Having had both, they ride very different. The Excursion is a truck and rides and handles like one. To me, that's a good thing. To Mrs Johnson wiht the Brownie meeting and soccer practice then stopping off at Kroger to pick up a few things for dinner, the Expy would probably be more appropriate.

Many times, when you park an Excusrion, you just run things over.
