how can you reset the mileage on a digital cluster

we just got a speedo cluster for a mustang we have here at the shop.. the guy brought it straight form the dealership on a trailer and it had 2 miles on it.. he is wanting to put in some cobra 160MPH guages on it as well as with some other things...

the cluster has i think 23,000 miles on it

is there some way to reset these guages or do they need to go to the deaeler and will the dealer even do them....

sorry....

It's called BREAKING THE LAW..........the last place on earth who would even consider the idea would be a dealership, and as far as I know, this cannot be done. Otherwise everyone would go buy different cluster.

It can be done and is legal. ONLY AT THE DEALER or an AUTHORIZED, MANUFACTURER trained service center. They can program the new cluster and install it in the vehicle. They make up a little form/certificate and give the customer a copy certifying that the new cluster is a true representation of the milage of the vehicle.

Sadly, the procedures for this are out on the web, but they are mostly on foreign language sites. Makes law enforcement's job pretty hard. However, dealers (at least the ones I have seen do this) use some sort of computer to do it.

Also, new clusters will require the PATS system to be reprogrammed anyway. And take all your keys with the car so PATS can be programmed properly.

Have the dealer do the cluster... Too many variables in them to try unless you know exactly what you are doing.

the car has 2 miles and this new guage has 20000 or so..

how is it illegal to get an accurate reading on a guage...

odometer corrections

EVERY dealership in the Nashville Tennessee area uses this company:

Rickwood Radio Service
305 Hermitage Ave.
Nasville, Tennessee 37210

615-254-3270

Even the dealerships want to relieve theirself of the libility of changing an odometer...send them all out to an authorized repair facility.

Good Luck!!
