My power dorr locks went out a while back and I need to get them fixed now..when i hit the buttons to lock or unlock them nothing happens except on the passenger side if I press the lock button on the passenger side it will lock both doors but if I hit unlock it doesn't work and nothing happens when I hit lock/unlock on the drivers side.
I had the same thing happen on a 2000 Ranger. The Ford shop replaced the door switches under warranty. They did not say what caused the problem.
One thing that I have noticed with my F150 and on that Ranger: The switches are positioned perfectly under the spot where water runoff enters the cab when the windows are open. I think that the water infiltration probably caused the problem in the Ranger, and since I have the windows down often it might happen on this one also. I am going to install ventshades or Weathertechs to try and divert the water stream. Maybe I am rambling, but I thought this might help in determining the source.
Hope I did not bore you.

SprocketX,
I have no idea what model vehicle or year you have but if the wiring is similar to a Y2K F150 it could actually be either switch.
Because of the 'voltage reversal' technique used, both switches must 100% functional for proper operation.
There's now way to tell for sure (from here) which one is bad, but based on your description(s) and the wiring diagram for a Y2K F150, it sounds like the "lock" contacts on the drivers side switch.

Sorry I forgot to add my signature...it's a 96.
I think gi_mutt could have nailed it because I noticed it a little bit after I washed the truck. I'll see what the dealership has to say..Thanks guys.
