instrument cluster swap

Anybody know what it would take to swap a '99 up instrument cluster into a '98?

It can't be done they are totaly different you would have to make more than a cluster change in order for it to work.

I realize you would have to make more than just the cluster change, but do you have to change all the wiring in the truck, or the wiring from the pcm to the cluster, or what. If anybody has done it successfully, please let me know. Thank you.

The main problem is the ISO9141 and SCP protocol changed from 98 to 99. That means the way the PCM, HEC, GEM, IABM talks to each other is different, and all of the wiring will have to be 99 up. Also, most of the pin positions for all the PCM inputs and outputs are different, so not only would all the dash harnesses have to swapped for 99up, but the underhood harnesses. Then you run into problems like where the type of door locks in a 97 or 98 wont work with the 99 up IP harnesses. So then the center body harness has to be changed as well as the harness inside the doors. Then the rear and underside body harnesses wont mate up with the 99 harness......... need i go on?

Thanks for the help jefflaw, I've been checking wiring diagrams, and I figured that all the wiring harnesses needed to be changed, but I wasn't sure, I just wanted some one to back up that theory, thanks.
