Truck would not start

In the parking lot at Home Depot yesterday. Turned the key and " click", then no power at all. No radio, lights--nothing. I popped the hood and looked at the battery terminals, they were kind of corroded so I went into Home Depot and bought tools to clean them. After re-doing the terminals, the truck started, but I am concerned about the total loss of power. If the terminals were so badly corroded that the wouldn't pass enough current to turn the starter, that is one thing, but the 12V system should have still had some charge to it. Any thoughts as to what might have happened to kill the electrical system completely? Thanks

take a little delectic grease and swab the terminals real good...well after you take a postcleaner or wire brush to the terminals first and then keep and eye on it....how old is the battery? more than four?and you live in canada?keep an eye out for those sears sells.if it,s gonna go it will when it hits ..what -15 below?.....not a good time...JMO
