I doubt it

I think that this is a standard thing, as I have one on my 2000 XL.
I have no power locks or anyting so I know mine is just a decoy light.

It's no decoy light. It is the PATS light showing that the system is armed. If you don't have the correct key for the PATS module, you don't start the engine. The power door locks, etc are part of a convenience package and has absolutely nothing to do with vehicle security.

WRONG.........or......RIGHT

It's actually either of both if that makes sense. My parents have a 2000 Expy, and the have the OEM alarm ( SUCKS A$$) and the vehicle is equipped with PATS. My dad also has a 97 Ranger STX and his has the OEM alarm with NO PATS, both have the little THEFT light that blink on the dash the way to tell if you have PATS is by the Key,,,,,,big one PATS small thin key NO PATS.

Actually; I know that I have the keyless entry/PATS.

BUT: I am wondering if I have a factory alarm system.....because it flashes theft?

I do not think I do, because I locked my door with window down, reached in and opened door.....no alarm, so I figure no security system other than PATS.

I have a 98 f150 4x4 and it has the theft light. When I lock my doors with the window down then open the door the lights flash and horn goes off and on until I press the panic button on my key chain. I bought this brand new from ford and it came with the theft alarm. The one thing I don't understand is that this damn thing goes off in the middle of the night or when ever. I asked the dealer what was up with this and they told me they are not sure if it is a dealer product. I bought the truck with 70 miles on it and they don't think it is a dealer item! Confused! Anybody know how I can disarm this thing for good, I have my horn disconnected for now.

I wasn't sure if I had one either, until a local wino set it off at my work place.

Alarm

I have a 1997 Lariat. The alarm is real. Yes to the windows down and door locked, open up and it goes off. Problem I have is it started alarming 20 minutes after shut down. Se my posting by "skogman" on 7/30/02.
