OK, 99 F150 XL 4.6 V8 auto 4x4, I wanted an instument cluster that had a tach in it, mine did not have one. So I went out to a find a cluster with a tach, found one and bought ($125.00 junk yard). It was out of another 99 f150 xlt w/4.6. Took my truck tonight after work over to the Ford dealer and I have a friend that is a service tech there. Well no one there has any Idea how to do this. I posted a tread in here about it and I did get info back on it. SO i passes it on to him. He said to me that the PATS system is funny sometimes. Remember this is a 99 and it has PATS keys w/ digital display for the odometer. Anyhow, I told him what I know from here, He hooked up his big computer (had a touch screen looked like a notebook computer but with no keyboard) into the data port and logged in, then we took the display out and pluged in new one and programed the PATS keys. Once that was done, Tried to start truck and it just cranks! There is no fuel pump. He tried to reprogram the PATS key and it said already programed but it still will not start. We tried to put the old cluster back in but it would start either. So as you can read i had to get a ride home tonight. My truck is in the dealership and will not start.
Does anyone now what the steps there are to reprogramming my cluster to work with my truck. I know this can be done I have read somewhere where people have done this and it does work. I just have no clue and if anyone is reading this that works for Ford, I have spent the last 5 hours waiting the ten minuites to get into the PATS system to do try something different! The other thing is this is my friend that is helping me without having to go through the dealership to pay for this (i will give me friend something $$) so it is not like he can go ask the BOSS if ya now what I mean. Also my truck had 39010.1 miles on it with my old cluster, the new one has 46667.3 on it is there anyway to change the mileage to my mileage? thanks
