Unhappy Mounting Scanner

Not sure if this is the right board, but not sure where else it will fit.

I am trying to mount an old Regency scanner I own in my 97 F-150. I am having a heck of a time finding a place to mount it. The dash has such an angle to it, the scanner does not fit right. The only place I can find it will fit is on the floor hump, but that is such a pain to reach down to it and very dangerous if I try to reach down while I am driving.

Any suggestions or pictures from anyone who has mounted a scanner or other radio (ham,cb,etc) in thier F-150?

Thanks!

I too have installed a scanner, cb and GPS. At first I had the scanner on the hump as you have said it was on the pass. side facing me and it was a bit dangerous--I also had an external speaker mounted on my center console cup holder thing (cheap aftermarket one). I have since built a console for the center hump out of 1\8" plywood with interior carpeting glued to it. I cut out the slots for my Scanner, CB and GPS and they now sit at just the right height on my center hump. The pass. seat ant be moved up very far because of this but I dont really care abou them. The console was cheap to build, most expensive part was the interior carpet it was 10 or 15 bucks and glue was2 or 3 with 5bucks worth of wood and an afternoon with the jig saw. I will post a pic as soon as I can get one. If you just mounted a scanner or a CB and scanner in it there would still be room for cup holders or something else.

I bent two brackets I got from Lowes Home Improvement store. Slid them under the console, and screwed them in. Unit tilts twoard console. Easy to reach. No screw holes visible. Don't know whether you have a console like this though.

Just bought a CB today, and was looking for mounting options. Linetest, that looks just like what I had in mind.

Where did you guys tap into for power on the CB?

I ran a hot wire all the way to the battery via my own fuse block. You could also tap into the fuse block in the cab of the truck--you just have to find the right one with power and the right amps. I wire everything seperate with my own fuse block just to be safe but I have seen plenty of others run wiring to their factory fuse blocks.

I go right to the battery for power/ground. If you go to the fuse box, the fuse for the Cig lighter works well. Also, loosen a screw on the CB chassis and run a short ground from that to the bolt under the console sup holder to help reduce noise.
The cup holder on mine pulls right out, so the console did not have to be removed for this install.
