Aftermarket keyless entry
Aftermarket keyless entry
Another question. I have an aftermerket keyless entry that I am tryng to hook into my power door locks on a '97 f-150. I know that I have to hook into the pink/green wire and pink/yellow wire just above the the emergency brake pedal mechanism. I am using the diagram for "reverse polarity door locks" provided by the manufacturer.
My problem is that every time I hook the power (+12 V) to the relays I blow the fuse....up to 30 amps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Mike

Mike,
This is difficult to do with just words but here goes...
FYI: I have a 2000 and I am ASSUMING the wire colors are the same for both of us.
I think the problem is the pink/yellow wire. You are on the wrong side of the door switch and thus have a short to ground via the driver's side switch. I believe the correct wire to use for the lock action is the purple/blue.
So let me rephrase it...
...the unlock relay should be inserted into the pink/green wire (pins 30 & 87A),
...and the lock relay should be inserted into the purple/blue wire (again pins 30 & 87A).
I found them on the passenger side kick panel. It was easier to work over there. But they should be available on either side.
Good Luck... XLT_D

OK, I figured it out. I had the wrong relays. Thinking that all relays were the same I grabbed a couple from the parts pile at work. I ended up with two 87 terminals and no 87a terminals.Thnaks for all the help everybody.
