Cool Check Engine Light Resolved - EGR Valve

94 F150 XLT - 93K

A few weeks ago I posted about this problem and was looking for some ideas on quick fixes. I ended up taking it to the dealer to get it fixed right.

They used a scanner and determined it was the EGR valve. $147 for the valve and 1.5 hours labor to scan and install. Ended up being a 'nice' bill.

Just for the record what happens to the valve to make it go bad? Does it get stuffed?

Also, since I'm new to trucks, If you have a cap (mine is a Leer) can you also put a horizontal tool box into the bed?

EGR Valve

I on once had a Nissan Altima that would have this problem. Chack engine light comes on, take it to the dealer, they scan, and say the EGR valve is bad. They told me it was plugged with carbon. Seemed like it happened every winter when the gas would change. usually twice, then run fine all spring and summer. Finaly got rid of the car before the problem was solved.

EGR valves can be cleaned sometimes

Just FYI, if the EGR valve is carboned-up, it can be cleaned with spray carburetor cleaner. Sure beats $147.
