Question Corrosion on Battery Terminals

I have a 98 model w/ the 5.4 and trailer tow pkg. The truck has 52K on it and is still on the original battery. I recently noticed a small amount of corrosion on both battery terminals and am planning to clean it and treat everything with the corrosion preventative spray.

I have heard that a common issue with these trucks is for one of the battery cables to corrode through, even though the cable looks fine on the outside. Is it likely that I will have this problem given the corrosion at the posts?

I am looking for input from others who have experienced these problems so I can take the best action now, and not end up stranded in the future.

Thanks,
Jim

Pretty much all vehicle's battery cables are prone to corroding from the inside out. Usually it's the postive cable going to the starter. For the price of one it probably wouldn't hurt to replace it every 4 or 5 years with your battery.
