Question Duping and programing new keys

I hope someone here has a good workaround:

My wife, bless her heart, has lost one of the two keys provided to me when I bought my truck. From reading the owner's manual and from talking to a few Ford owners, it would appear I'm f*&! with regard to getting a new key w/ chip. One needs *both* keys to program a new chip on a new key? Anyone know a workaround? It's killing me knowing there is exactly *one* key on Planet Earth that will start my truck, and I'm responsible for it!

Thanks,

Dave

There's no workaround except going to your dealer and having them hook it up to their service tool. FYI, Some charge up to $100 for the key and programming - you're at their mercy.

When they hook up their tool, there is a 10 minute wait for security purposes, then they erase all the keys and program your existing key and the new key. The procedure is very straight forward and shouldn't take them more than 15 minutes (don't let them tell you anything different) from start to finish.

What I would recommend - have them program a third key or get one cut and program it yourself and stash it away so you always have two 'good' keys available.

Thanks, I figured I was SOL. BTW, my dad works with the police (the whole fleet is Ford) so I can get blanks and blank chips for almost zero. It's the programming where I'm going to get screwed!

I had an auto start put in my 01 last week and the installer had to pull the chip inside the key out and quicktie it to the steering colum he told me that if there ever was a problem with it starting IE if the chip came loose in the colum to just disconnect the battery for fifteen minutes and the try starting with the other key that still had the chip inside, maybe this will help if you still have the one key with a chip inside

Not sure where I read it since the search is Down: But, I just got
my Extra key fro, Joe Friday that I ordered via Pay Pall , He shipped
it Mon. I got it today. $15.00 plus $5.15 shipping if you order (1)
or (100) the shipping is a flat $5.15..So a total of $20.15 plus it
cost me $1.37 to have it cut at Lowes...Took less than half a min.
to program by the instructions he sent with the key.
So if you need a extra to hind in your truck. You can't beat the price, Ford parts wants Fifty a key.
His email is JOEFRIDAY2@aol.com if you need more info you can call him at 704-849-0500 he also has the OEM remotes.
