Lou,

Contact this guy : joefriday2@aol.com

I don't know him personally, but he sells PATS keys on eBay for $13 plus shipping and has answered questions for me before about various Ford vehicles. Good luck.

If the key head is big and has a rectangular plug on the end, it's probably a PATS key.

You can have a regular key cut for a buck and try it. If it doesn't work, then you'll need a PATS key. Don't throw away the regular key because you can keep that in your wallet and it will get you into your vehicle if you happen to lock the key inside.

'98 Explorer does have PATS. Since you only have one key you will need to go to your dealer to get the second key programmed. The method the Owner's Manual gives for programming keys yourself requires you have two already-programmed keys.

Programing Remotes

Programing Remote
OK I just got another remote door lock key fob, now I am having trouble programing it for my truck. I was able to program the new fob - but now my old one wont work.

Heres the technique I used,

cycle ignition on/off 8 times within 10 seconds then press the lock button on the remote which you want to program.

The problem I am having it with programing 2 remotes !!

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

You have to reprogram BOTH remotes again. When you programmed the new remote it deleted your old one.

After you cycle the ignition on and off 8 times, press a button on the first remote, the locks will cycle - then press a button on the second remote, the locks will cycle again. Voila, problem solved.
