keyless or not keyless
I have been trying to find out if my truck is equipped for keyless how can I tell with out going to the dealer ( they want 80.00 just to tell me if it is or not ) when I bought the truck I found a card inside for keyless codes but I do not know what it is for. I have 2 key fobs from ford both are new. I have tried the 8 turn program technique but no success.
If I'm not mistaken, 2000 and up F150's have the prewire for keyless entry in the door. This was an issue in the Lightning forum also. 99's didn't have it, 00+ do.
All you need to do is remove the door panel and have a gander.
If the connector is there, the parts required are a new door handle and keypad. (sorry, dont have the part numbers handy and search is down) Install only takes a couple of hours however removing the door handle can be tricky.
The 5 digit number code is on the white box attached to the firewall under the dash.
Cool mod. Good luck.

Keyless entry available?
jnd,
I did this mod to my '02 SCrew on Saturday in about 1.5 hours...easy job, no problems & it works great. :-)
Ordered the parts (handle & keypad) from www.fordpartsonline.com for $106.06.
However, before pulling your door trim apart, I would look for a small (4"x4"x1/2") white 'computer' behind the dash instruments and above the brake pedal. See attached picture. If it's there, chances are you will have the prewire waiting for you inside your door panel. While your there looking, take note of the 5 digit keypad code.
Also, check out this web site for great instructions and more info. www.svtlightnings.com/

good suggestion diffrent problem
thanks for the info maybe I can try that once I solve the other problem it would be nice to have the outside key pad ..............what I am trying to find out is how can you tell if the truck has keyless entry remote system......when I bought the truck I didn't get a key fob (if it has keyless the other guy kept the fobs) which is no big deal cause I got 2 from a vehicle that a person in my family had (99 f150) I bought them from him for 20.00 (good deal I might add) so when I purchased this truck I tryed to program them to work on this vehicle I did this for about 2-3 hours maybe (you know the 8 turn stop in on deal right) well no luck in programing aren't all the new trucks prewired for the remote keyless I read that it was standard equipment on the 2000 xlt and if not how can I tell if it is on the truck......
I've discussed this here many times before and asked this question with no response so I will try again. I can't find the white box under the dash and was hoping someone may have a good picture of the wiring harness that I hope may be there. If it is there, then I will be able to purchase the other parts needed for this mod that I would so desperately like to do. Had this option on two previous vehicles and really miss it. TIA,

For starters, in order to have Remote Keyless Entry your 2000xlt must have a Remote Anti-Theft Personlity module (RAP). This module is a white box mounted on the firewall slightly above and to the left of your brake pedal. It will have two harnesses that attach to it.
If you found the card with the code on it you probably have a RAP - the code is for the 5-button keyless entry keypad that mounts on the outside of your door. This code will also be in bold on the white label on the RAP module.
To program your fobs:
Insert ignition key, turn from OFF to RUN eight times (you have ten seconds to complete this step so you don't have to hurry too much), ending in RUN on the eighth time. The door locks will Lock then Unlock to indicate you have entered programming mode. Press a button on the first fob, the door locks will cycle to indicate it has been programmed.
Press a button on the second fob, the locks will cycle again. Turn key to OFF, the locks will cycle again to indicate you have left program mode.
Try this again and let us know what happens. If nothing happens try programming the fobs to another vehicle or changing the batteries in them.

What is the part number on the white box? It should be right under the barcode and have the following format: xxxx-xxxxxx-xx

are you closing the doors on the truck when you try to get it in the program mode. try it again, 8 times and ending in the on position. also once you get it to work you must have the new key fobs for the 2000's and up, when i changed my whole 97 truck over to a 2000 lightning with engine and all opitions and
wire harnesses, i had to buy the new fobs as well.
