Are This Headlight Bulbs going to Burn Up my Wires....

http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI...item=601710502

They work great but I have read some post about these 80/100 watt bulbs burning wires up or relays. Who has really had this happen to them. Thanks

Yes it does happen, I have seen it a few times, the wires burn up and cause headlight failure. I do have them in my truck and have not had a problem. but it is also an old style truck.

DON'T DO IT!!! Mine burnt up on Fri. ...after over a year of use, and I don't drive at night very often. Eurolite makes a New Generation HID replacment bulb in 65 / 55 or 65 / 60 "stock wattage" that is far brighter than my 100 / 80's. I love them. Hell, that ad doesn't even tell you what brand you're getting, and they all have a "fiberglass like" base. Trust me, spend $40 at your local shop.

I had already go those off Ebay but I only have about $17 into them. I put them in the other day before I read your post. I let them run for about 15 minutes and the wires did not get warm but I will probably take them out. Are these the light your talking about the EuroLite's. Let me know maybe I will just get them. Hell between the stock, Ebay and now these I will have more headlights than I can deal with.....

Thumbs down Well...

...I think those are the first gen. Eurolites. Either way though, these are the DOT approved, street legal bulbs. They now have "New Generation" Xenon Fusion bulbs. They are blue, and look a little blue when the lights are off, but when their on, their pure white. Better yet, their not street legal. Still too bright.

Mine are the 9007SW bulbs. Here's a complete list straight from the manufacturer:

http://www.toucanindustries.com/List...TOKEN=78701334

BTW, my 100 / 80's were charred all around the bulb, harness, etc., and the glue inside there had been melted & cooked.

That's better??? Lights so bright that you blind oncoming drivers? You know where I stand... may it be a cop that you have blinded.

I ordered those non fusion ones for 18.99. Probably not as good as the Generation 2 but will look great. I think being the same wattage is the key. Will not burn up my wires and also I don't think you will blind anybody. Same wattage (brightness) just a whiter color, instead of that yellow Ford look.

OK... I'll take your word for it. In that case, I really wonder if the additional wattage is sufficient to actually burn up the wires. At a nominal 12 volts, a 55 watt bulb draws 5.42 amps, an 80 watt bulb draws 6.67 amps, a 1.25 amp difference. From the wire gauge table at

http://rbeelectronics.com/wtable.htm

you can see there is quite a bit of latitude in permissible amperage, even in with 18 gauge wire. So, I'd be just a tad surprised to see the wires burn up as others have stated.

Perhaps problems result from higher heat output frying the bulb socket, or maybe the bulb base?

You might be right, but for only 23 dollars with shipping I have piece of mind that I have put the same wattage/amp bulbs in there. I take some long trips in the Expy, a lot of times at night. I don't want to get caught somehere with burned up wires. I keep the stock bulbs in the clove box but those will not do much good if the wires get cooked. It probably will not happen but what the hell. I might try to sell them again for the 10 bucks I paid for them.... If any body wants the 80/100 watt bulbs let me know....

a 25 watt difference between 55 and 80 watt bulbs. Thats a 45% increase in draw. can you imagine any single truck mod that increases the output of something by 45%? And doing it safely with no other reinforcement?

Oh sure, slap on an aftermarket supercharger, but you won't be getting 300,000 miles on the engine.

Increase your bulbs by that much, but dont expect them to work perfectly for the life of the truck.

Your call.

The place just emailed me and told me they are out of the plasma eurolites and only have the fusion ones. I asked if those are the newer version of that bulb and he said yes. I am getting a set of those for 16.99. Same wattage as stock. Should be ok with those. Here is the link to that web site..

Hey...

GOOD DEAL MAN!!! This is exactly what I just got, but in a 9007, and not the "D". http://www.aieonline.com/106/1560.htm?290

Only I paid $40. LOL!!! You'll like them, and I bet, if the "D's" are as bright and the non- "D's", you'll be happier than with the 100 /80's.

What does that "D" stand for? I followed that link and it came of with 9005's and they look like they are not a high beam low beam bulb only one wattage. I will let you know when I get them. They just sent me an email and told me they were out the door!!

Unhappy Sorry...

...should have been more clear. That is what my box looks like, rather than the square box. If you'll notice, that label says "Street Legal". Mine do not. The "D" means their DOT approved. I have 9007SW. SW meaning Super White, non-street legal. You are getting 9007D meaning Street Legal DOT approved. Dunno the difference since the wattage is the same.
