Question Program with just one ignition key ...

Has anyone had success programming a second ignition if they only have one working ignition key?

I ran into Joe on one of these threads who sells the PAT Keys and he said I didn't need to have two programmed keys to program a new (second) key. He sent me to: www.fngiants.com/keyprogramming.htm

Joe said, "Where it tells you to insert your second programmed key, you just re-insert the first key a second time, and it works 99.5% of the time. It has worked for hundreds of people."

I tried the Ford Onboard Programming "Method C" several times and I never could get it to work. It still says, "Thief" when I insert the new key.

Has anyone had any luck programming a new key with just one key?

Thanks for any help.

method c requires the truck to be hooked up to a computer plus 2 keys. I dont believe using the same key in any of the other keys would work because I believe there is a master key and then howevere many duplicates you wish to make ..up to 8 I believe. So you have to have the master and a duplicate. If you have just one key you will have to take it to the dealer to get hooked up to their comp and they can scan for the code and program the second key..call around because some are real pricey but should be no more(at most) than 100 total to read the code and get a key. Then go to that web site Joe sent you to and order at least 2 spares and then program them yourself and you shouldnt have a problerm just use method A or B I say do the others yourself because dealer is pricey on their keys. At least 30 -45 dollars at most dealers. And I say keep at least 2 spares besides your normal key and 1 spare(total =4) that way you always have at least 2 and dont have to go back to the dealer.

Using the first key as a 'second key' will not work.

You have to go to the dealer - when they hook their diagnostic tool up to the vehicle it will force them to wait 10 minutes (for security purposes) then they erase all keys, disconnect the tool, cycle each of the keys from Off to Run and they're done.
