Interior Lights Splice?

Can someone tell me where I can splice into a lead that will enable me to connect some under dash lights. I really miss not having the footwell light up when I open the door. My '02 Screw has a sunroof, so maybe i'm missing a large dome light. At night the interior seems a little dark compared to my other car. Even my '66 Tbird lights up brighter. Thanks in advance for any help.

Interior Lights

I wish I could tell you its a simple hookup, unfortuneately, with the interior and exterior lights being controlled by the G.E.M. module, if you connect into anything, you may pop the module..
Best thing to do is consult a wiring diagram or service manual for the truck. There may be a way, we only have 2000 and 2001 Fords at work, and the documentation is sparce at best.

Thanks Mike. I figured as much. In todays vehicles it's easy to screw something up if you don't have the information.

No........

You can use the current from the interior lights to energize a relay, then you can turn on anything you want, it won't harm the GEM module at all.

HuskerF150 is Correct...

The easiest way would be to use the dome light wire to trigger a relay to do whatever you want. A simple SPST relay will work (Radio Shack part number 275-226, or similar).

The domelight wire on an 02 Screw has a + polarity, and is located in a big wireloom that runs vertically in front of the PATS module which is mounted on the firewall under the dash to the left of the brake pedal. The wire you're looking for is black with a light blue tracer. Test it yourself to be sure. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

GG45ACP,

My question is: how is it you know the location and colors of all the wires in the harness? Is there a book? Are you Claire Voyant?

Uhh...I just looked at a wiring diagram in my dealer's service manual. Just completed installation of a Viper 550 Alarm + remote start, so I knew the location off the top of my head.

GG45ACP -
Just a pet peeve of mine - the PATS module you referred to is actually the 'Central Security Module' and truly does not have anything to do with the PATS coded-key system. It does remote keyless entry and keyless entry keypad primarily.

Yes, the Black/Light Blue circuit is the interior illumination.

Cheap under dash lights

Hey Venturer,
I added under dash lights to my '99 Taurus. I just bought a couple of cheap marker lights at Wal Mart for $1.94 each. I pulled off the amber colored lenses, threw them away, and cut off the plastic clips that held the lenses in place.
On the driver's side I found an existing screw that was in metal so it was already grounded. On the passenger side there weren't any existing screws in the area I wanted to mount the light so I just used a self-tapping sheet metal screw.
Then I only had to connect the short lead that comes attached to the light to the correct wire underneath the threshold cover by each door. The bulbs are the push-in style and are low wattage so they don't overload the circuit but they do a nice job of lighting up the floor.
I've had them in for a couple of months, I drive the car every day and have had no problems.
