Question Which Battery to use?

I have the HD battery that came with my truck. I also have a fairly new Yellow top Optima battery. Would I gain anything by using the yellow top in my 201 f150 5.4 lariat 4X4 in place of the stock battery? I do have a winch and two-way radio in the truck.

You could compare

a) cranking amps
b) cold cranking amps
c) total amp hours

and make up your own mind. Other things to consider:

warranty
overall longevity
need for deep cycling

Being the tightwad that I can be at times, I'd have to say that if the battery that's in the truck now is giving good service, why replace it before you need to?

Hi Boaz

Im trying to remember...Optima yellow top..is that there deep cycle batt? If so...i think it has low amp. hr. rating(55)?....if thats the one..it might not be the right one for what you want to do.

With your accessories...look for the most amp.hr.rating/ at least 120amp.....if only using one battery. Alternative is to install an aux. battery to supply your acc...otherwise..as you probably know..you might run that engine batt. down pretty fast with a 12V winch etc. CB dosent draw much unless you use kicker

I believe someone here did a 2 batt. underhood install on there F150...maybe Neal hp freak-engine forum?

I did just that on my last truck...just for acc. etc. Used 1 deep-cycle and 1 engine battery with isolator between the two.

Hope that helps...Good luck...OT

I have to say I agree with you 100% why change if the one you have is still good.

Try sitting in the middle of nowhere waiting for a friend or a tow truck with nothing on but your T-shirt and jeans. Oh, some details.. cold, windy, moonless night. Visibility 25 feet. Last gas station, mailbox, and other signs of civilization, about 10 miles..

Sorry to sound like I'm coming down on you, but wear a coat. I saw a news report on people up here in Michigan that park in a garage at home and at work or maybe have a remote start and never bother to take their coat with them - even in the dead of winter!

Now what happens if you get in a traffic accident, run out of gas, have to stop to pull out a Chevy, etc, etc?

optima batt

Think about this. The smallest Deep cycle yellow top battery has a 2hr and 4min reserve capacity. It also can sit on a shelf up to a year and hold enough juice to crank a truck. The best thing of all besides the great warr. is that they contain no liquid and can be mounted upside down if u chose 2 do so. Just a few facts from an optima owner. Will get u info from work on the batt Friday. E-mail 2 remind me 2562710257@my2way.com
