80/100 Watt Bulbs........
Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with any wiring after installing the higher wattage headlight bulbs? I recently had to change my high/low switch assembly on the turn lever stalk (actually changed the whole multi function assy) on my '97 150 because it was burnt/melted inside and wouldn't turn on the high beams any longer. I'm not sure if this was because of the super whites (Euro Light 80/100 Watts) or just age of the switch. I like the brighter whiter light, but switches get expensive too..... Also, has anyone done the headlight wiring upgrade (to 12 ga. wire) with DRLs? How did you do it if you did? Thanks, people.

Are these actually 80/100W Draw bulbs? Or just bulbs that claim 80/100W output? If its the former, then yes you do need to upgrade your wiring harness, unless you like the idea of frying wires. Just do a search in this forum and read Bill Voyles posts. He has done a lot of work with the stock headlight system.

Yup, and that is what I want to do, but, no one has yet answered how to do it on a vehicle with Daylight Running Lights (DLR) I can find posts etc on how to disable them on '99 and newre, but not on '97 and '98s. Mine is a'97 and......

Guess it depends on how you want to do it. The easiest way is to leave the DRL functionality in place. To do this, simply plug in your new wiring harness getting power from you relays which get power for the battery. The relays would be turned on by splicing into the existing headlights. That way the relays would be active whenever you would previously have had your headlights on.
To disable your DRL, well, one way you could do that is use the parking light fuse to trigger your relay. That way your headlights would only turn on when you turned on your parking lights. Of course, this would mean you couldnt have your parking lights on by themselves, but it would surpass your DRL logic. Or here's a better fuse... your foglight switch fuse. On my truck this is only on when the headlights are on. Problem is, I'm not sure how this would work in conjunction with DRLs. You would have to probe around your fuse box to find something that had power at the appropriate time. All you have to do is make the tap and watch the voltage given various running conditions.
