gas gauge

when i fill my tank and leave the truck running the gauge doesn't move if i shut it off and start it up again it will go to where it is filled. Is this normal or do i got a problem. oh yeah it a 99f150

I havn't tried that on my gas, but our diesel would do the same thing. If you dont shut the vehicle off, the gauge will slowly go the correct spot.

That is normal. Mine does that as well. After a while it will go to full.


My guess is the guage is computer controlled and it only samples the fuel level every so often. This would keep the guage from moving sporatically when you are on uneven ground. But that is just a guess...

Owners manual say's not to leave vehicle running when adding fuel. Fuel system is pressurized and should cause check engine light to come on for 1999 model F-150's.

This is one thing that was pointed out upon delivery of our new 99 F-150.
