Angry Help! Drill and Tap Size????

I was putting my blue wire loom on the cables to the starter and stripped the bolt that holds a cable clamp to the right front frame. The bolt is an 8mm X (looks like 1.25 pitch). I'm thinking of drilling out the frame hole (slightly) and using the next larger size bolt.

What size bolt should I use and what drill and tap???

There is no way to get into the frame to put a nut on the other side.

In my Metric tap & die set the next size is a 10 X 1.25.
Don't know the drill size.

If you have room you could use a rivet-nut. I have a tool that works like a rivet gun but it puts an aluminum nut in place. The largest size is 1/4 X 20 thread so you will not hold anything too heavy. We used them to put a fiberglass bed cover on a friends f-150.

Thumbs up

T Ellenberger,

Thanks, but I went ahead and drilled the hole out with a 'Q' drill and then tapped it for 3/8-24 UNF bolt. (between a 9MM and 10MM). I can tell you that you don't get many threads is those frame walls. A 3/8-24 is about the same as a 1.00 pitch metric bolt.
